Domestic Risks, European Responsibilities, and Opportunities for Cooperation
Strategic Dialogue for Global Affairs Initiative (SDGAi), through its Climate Change, Security, and Climate Diplomacy Studies Department, led by Professor Sorin Cheval, Ph.D., is preparing an academic project for October 2026 dedicated to the role of climate diplomacy in strengthening national security, promoting European cooperation, and developing public policies based on scientific expertise.
In line with the SDGAi’s mission to promote strategic dialogue, interdisciplinary research, and the formulation of evidence-based solutions to global challenges, the project aims to create a platform for dialogue among academia, public institutions, security experts, diplomats, and representatives of civil society.
The event highlights the department’s expertise in the fields of climate change, security, and climate diplomacy, based on the premise that climate change is not merely an environmental challenge, but a factor that influences economic stability, the security of critical infrastructure, institutional resilience, and the international standing of states.
The academic coordination of the project by Professor Sorin Cheval, Ph.D., a climatologist and researcher with extensive experience in climatology, natural hazards, and climate change impact assessment, provides the initiative with a scientifically grounded approach oriented toward applicable public policies. His experience in coordinating national and European research projects facilitates the integration of climatological perspectives with the dimensions of security and international cooperation.
